GTA 6 Leonida: The State Around Vice City

In GTA 6, Leonida is the fictional state where the story takes place. Vice City is one of its cities. The setting draws on Florida, combining a modern coastal city with island chains, wetlands, inland industry and northern countryside. Rockstar’s official destination showcase introduces six places to explore.

Think of Leonida as the state and Vice City as the city inside it. That distinction matters when you read about the map: a comparison between Vice City and Los Santos concerns cities, while a comparison between Leonida and GTA 5’s world concerns the wider setting.

Florida

The real state behind the setting. Rockstar borrows its landscapes and compresses real distances.

Leonida

The fictional state of GTA 6. It contains every destination introduced on this page.

Vice City

One city inside Leonida — its urban center, not a state of its own.

Six destinations Rockstar has introduced

The six entries below come from Rockstar’s official destination showcase on the GTA VI website, each paired with its named postcard artwork. This is the scope Rockstar has chosen to introduce — six showcase destinations, not a complete count of every place in the game.

Vice City — city and coastal neighborhoods

Vice City — official Rockstar postcard artwork. · Rockstar Games

Vice City is Leonida’s urban center. Its identity comes from contrasting neighborhoods: beaches and Art Deco hotels, street-level bakeries, flea markets and a cruise-port environment. A city comparison belongs to Vice City, rather than to the whole state.

Leonida Keys — tropical island chain

Postcard: Leonida Keys. · Rockstar Games

The Keys bring island life to Leonida: an archipelago of laid-back communities and open water. They also connect to Jason’s background and Brian’s smuggling business, giving the region a story role as well as a coastal identity. Rockstar describes blue waters that are beautiful and dangerous at once, with plenty of bars along the shore.

Grassrivers — wetlands and mangroves

Postcard: Grassrivers. · Rockstar Games

Grassrivers is the wetland side of Leonida. Mangroves, waterways and wildlife give it a different character from Vice City’s beaches and streets. Rockstar’s description highlights alligators and the dangers concealed within the swamp — this is not a city or an industrial zone, but an environment that is itself the attraction and the threat.

Port Gellhorn — a faded resort coast

Postcard: Port Gellhorn. · Rockstar Games

Port Gellhorn is a coast whose tourist boom has faded. Its motels, abandoned attractions and empty shopping centers tell a different story from Vice City’s glamour. The official description presents a place surviving through a rougher local economy, where liquor, painkillers and truck stops have replaced the old vacation trade.

Ambrosia — sugar industry and inland communities

Postcard: Ambrosia. · Rockstar Games

Ambrosia adds industry to Leonida’s inland setting. Allied Crystal’s sugar refinery provides work, while a local biker gang shapes the other side of the community. Its identity is built around production and local power, rather than beach tourism — Rockstar frames it as the state’s heartland, where industry and old-school values meet.

Mount Kalaga — northern national park

Postcard: Mount Kalaga. · Rockstar Games

Mount Kalaga is the northern wilderness destination. Its national-park landscape offers hunting, fishing and off-road routes, with isolated communities hidden deeper in the woods. It gives Leonida a rural contrast to its southern island and city environments, up near the state border, where hermits and radical groups live off the grid.

Is Leonida the same as Florida?

Florida is the real-world inspiration; Leonida is the game’s fictional setting. Rockstar reshapes distances and transitions to suit the world it is building. That is why a real Florida road map is useful for understanding the inspiration, while an in-game location guide needs its own geography.

In the original TROISCOULEURS interview, Rockstar’s Rob Nelson explained that distances between places are compressed and adjusted, so that driving out of the city into suburbs and countryside feels natural. The world is a reshaped Florida, not a traced one.

Named places and their story connections

Named places enter the story in different ways. Liberty City belongs to Lucia’s background. Paradise Garage is tied to a vehicle and storage location. One-Eyed Willie’s belongs to the Lake Leonida area. This is why a place list is more useful when each row includes the relationship that its source actually describes.

The same name can play very different roles. Liberty City is part of a character’s past, the Vercetti Estate appears inside a weapon description, and Paradise Garage connects to explicit garage content. Separating background mentions, product-description places and usable destinations is what makes map information readable instead of misleading.

The protagonists connect the regions

The regional guide also explains the story’s geography. Jason’s work connects him to the Keys, while Lucia’s recent past connects her to the state’s penitentiary. The conspiracy then gives the wider state a role beyond Vice City’s nightlife.

Read community maps alongside official names

A community map is useful for browsing proposed connections between places. Read its pin labels and source notes alongside Rockstar’s names. The number of pins describes that map project’s coverage, while the official descriptions establish the relationships used in this guide.

Community maps are external projects with their own pin counts — those counts are not official place totals.
